Q. How do you print on Converse?
Q. What does CMYK mean?
A. CMYK is an abbreviation for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, and is the same colour spectrum that you can print on your home printer and most printshops. CMYK is more limited than what you can see on your computer/mobile screen. Mobile and computer screens display the RGB colour spectrum, as well as being backlit. This means that graphics on your display will be brighter than the CMYK printed images. Designs containing colours outside the CMYK colour spectrum will be replaced by the closest colour our printer is able to create, which could be darker than the original. For a truer depiction of your final design, set your images to CMYK in colour settings in Photoshop. This is why we state in our terms and conditions to expect some colour discrepancies. See the image below for a representation of the two colour spectrums and their differences:
Q. Any tips help make Custom Converse look awesome?
A. Designs are highly subjective, but there are a few guidelines we suggest you follow to help ensure your Custom Converse look awesome.
- Avoid flat block background/all-over colour and use a graphic design. There can be fall off at the back heel of the converse, leading to a lighter colour than the rest of the shoe. As the shoe is printed in the printer, already made, it is not a flat surface to print on, which can lead to colour variations. To best combat this, we advise against the use of block colour backgrounds, and recommend using a graphic as the fall-off is less noticeable.
- Choosing a shoe colour is up to you. We offer white and black Converse All Stars. Most designs work on both, with the exception of highly coloured or white designed- which best works on and lasts longer on the white shoe.
- Imagery placement again is your choice. We do recommend placing your main graphic and lettering within the 'safe zone' of the dashed line. This will allow us to print your imagery no matter the size of the shoe. If you choose to place your design outside the 'safe zone', please note your shoe won't be printed exactly as shown on screen due to size and shape variations in the physical shoe.
